PTA

Parent Teacher Association

Every parent and carer of children in our school and all the teaching staff are automatically members of our Parent Teacher Association.  We are members of the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA).

PTA Events

We organise cake sales, school discos, a grand Christmas Fair, an Easter competition, a family summer event and the occasional quiz night.  In addition to the traditional fund raising events, the PTA also organises sales of quality second hand school uniform and we offer families the chance to buy reasonably prices books from School Link.

Money raised by the PTA has, amongst other things, been spent on Theatre Alibi, the school’s environmental area, wet playtime games, outdoor play tables and trim trail, video cameras, all weather play surfaces, welcome books for new Foundation children, outdoor notice boards, wooden plant boxes and  outdoor wall plaques.   We also fund Christmas parties and help Father Christmas buy his presents for the school children!

The Committee

The PTA has a working committee which organises our fundraising and social events throughout the school year.  Positions within the committee include chair person, vice chair, treasurer, minutes and letters secretaries, raffle/sponsor co-ordinator and shoppers.  These posts are elected on an annual basis at our AGM each autumn.   The committee meets about once every 6 – 8 weeks.

Friends of the PTA

Parents who do not have the time to get involved in the PTA committee but who would like to offer their support, can become a Friend of the PTA.  Friends lend a hand at events for example, running stalls at fairs, wrapping Christmas presents for the children, counting Tesco’s vouchers (!) and so on.

Travel Action Group

Three years ago the PTA set up the Travel Action Group (TAG).  The aim of TAG is to encourage children to walk to school more and reduce car usage.  TAG has been successful in obtaining grants from Devon County Council for the school to use to promote these objectives.

Social Events

After all this hard work, the Committee and Friends enjoy regular evenings out together!

If you would like to get involved or want to find out more about the PTA, please leave a note in the PTA tray by the school office and we will get back to you.
