SEND FESTIVAL HELD AT ECC MARCH 7TH 2018
On Friday 7th March a group of children attended the SEND Festival held at Exmouth Community College. The event was aimed at developing confidence and skills, for children with additional needs, through a variety of sports activities. The event was organised by staff from South Dartmoor and Exmouth Community College and was led by ECC Post 16 and GCSE P.E. students.
The children first limbered up with some gymnastics stretches, balances and movements, before testing their hand-eye coordination with balloon and ball skills. Some of the children surprised themselves at how good they were at performing in these activities!
We then moved on to a rounders challenge, where children could either use a bat to hit a ball or try to kick a ball, before running around coned bases. The children had turns at both batting or kicking and fielding, putting the hand-eye coordination skills practised earlier to the test!
All the children had a very enjoyable time, developed their P.E. skills and were also able to meet and socialise with children from other Exmouth schools. All in all, a great time was had by all!
FOOTBALLERS DO BASSETTS PROUD
Twenty-five Bassetts children from Years 3-6 represented the school against other Exmouth Schools in the Brixington Football Tournament on Tuesday 13th October.
The morning session was contested by Years three and four. Bassetts worked very hard to play as a team. Star performances by Billy Rowsell, who made an array of spectacular saves throughout the morning: and Finley Elvin for terrorising defenders on numerous occasions; including two well-taken goals.
Bassetts took two teams to the Year 5/6 tournament in the afternoon. Both teams played well, showing good teamwork throughout. The A Team won their group and progressed to the final, but was beaten by a strong Woodbury team. The B Team competed in the 5th place play-off and was successful, overcoming Exeter Road with a strike from Harry Griffiths.
