Talented Tennis Stars Win Exmouth Tournament

Bassetts A Team were victorious at the Exmouth Schools Tennis Tournament last Thursday (19.06.14) as they won their group, ending with a victory in the final over St Joseph’s.

The A Team, made up of Year five and six students Taya Evens, Naomi Moyle, Kaleigh Roberts, Joseph Rose, Jack McKie and Barney Neilson competed in singles matches, which made each match a best of 6. The team won all of their matches, bringing the trophy back to Bassetts!

The B Team also had an enjoyable afternoon, despite not managing to qualify through their group. There were victories for most of the children, but the overall points total wasn’t quite enough! Ellie Hunt, Elanor Messom, Fushia Middleton, Hayden Grange, Isaac Davies and Toby Hill made up the B Team.

Tennis champs 3rd in Devon

Bassetts Year 3/4 Tennis Team finished 3rd in the Devon Finals, which were held in Plymouth on Wednesday 24th June.

The team, represented by Nathanial Cross, Nial Christensen and sisters, Johanna and Malena Kathi, had previously won titles in Exmouth and East Devon in order to progress to the Finals.

Bassetts began in blistering form, toppling all of their group stage opponents with Nathanial, Joanna and Malena winning every match and Nial picking up several important wins too.

The success in the  group stage meant that Bassetts won their group and then played runners up from group B in the quarter final. Bassetts were again dominant, winning the game 3-1.

Into the semi-finals! After beating St Peter's (the other East Devon representatives) in the Exmouth and East Devon Finals, Bassetts had to face them again. In another nervy affair, every match went the distance resulting in a 2-2 tie. This meant that each point had to be calculated and on this occasion St Peter’s triumphed and in turn gained their revenge!

However, all was not lost for Bassetts as they headed into the third place play-off knowing that a win would secure them a very respectable bronze medal in third. This they did with a comfortable win over North Devon side, Lankey.
