At Bassetts Farm Primary school, we believe that an engaging, high quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through biology, chemistry and physics.
We know the children at Bassetts Farm Primary are the future. They are the scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians of tomorrow and as such, it is our intention to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will engage and help them see the links between our behaviour and the consequences on the world around us. It is our intention to empower the children with knowledge that will one day ensure the world is in safe hands.
We follow the National Curriculum Programmes of Study, to ensure children will consolidate and build on their earlier knowledge and skills. In doing so, all children should achieve or exceed National curriculum expectations and reach their full potential.
It is important to us that science is brought into every child’s life, irrespective of their social background. High quality teaching for all means no child is left behind. We strive to meet every child’s learning needs and respond to evidence accordingly. Science clubs are open to all and fortnightly OWL sessions give children opportunities for practical hands on science that might not be available to them at home.
Science promotes cultural capital. Throughout their time at Bassetts, children build up a skill set that they can drawer upon to be successful in their chosen careers. It is essential we give all children the STEM skills to help them believe they can be the scientists of tomorrow.
