At Bassetts Farm, the study of Geography involves our pupils exploring the relationship and interactions between people and the environments in which they live and upon which they and all on Earth depends. The many opportunities and challenges that will arise during their lifetime will be very much about geography at personal, national and global scales. Geography is, by nature, an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

We aim for Geography within the school to:

  • Contribute to a broad, enriching and aspirational curriculum that is ambitious for all children
  • Ensure all children achieve at least a good standard and strive to excel.
  • Develop the skills and a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it, which children will need in order to take advantage of opportunities, responsibilities and experiences open to them later in life
  • Develop Cultural Capital by ensuring all children become global citizens by exploring their own place in the world, their values and responsibilities to other people, to the environment and to the sustainability of their planet
  • Address social disadvantage by ensuring all pupils have access to a wide range of geographical resources and a variety of contexts for learning both within the classroom and through fieldwork
